Central America: Incofe closes a tender 16 January
for a cargo of granular urea for Buenaventura and Caldera. Shipment is required
by 1-10 February. Offers are invited for one lot comprised of 10,000t for
Caldera and 10-20,000t for Buenaventura, as well as a potential 5,000t of NPKs.
China: The state planning agency, the NRDC, has
asked local governments and companies to ensure local supplies and stable
prices for the spring season according to statement posted on its website. The
call follows the huge reduction in fertilizer output and spiraling prices
resulting from gas supply diversion away from the nitrogen industry (see
previous reports).
Meanwhile, the Rmb has risen to its highest level
in over two years following the German Bundesbank decision to include the
Chinese currency in its foreign exchange reserves. It is now trading at Rmb
6.43/$1 against Rmb 6.59 one month ago. This is another development supportive
of urea imports.
